Abstract

Indonesia is an earthquake-prone region, including Bengkulu Province, which is in a high-risk zone. Elementary school students are the most vulnerable group during disasters due to physical and psychological limitations. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of understanding earthquake disaster mitigation through the implementation of Edu Dance based on joyful learning. The study used a mixed methods explanatory sequential model, with 10 students of SDN 44 Bengkulu City as subjects. Quantitative data were obtained through pre-tests and post-tests of understanding earthquake disaster mitigation analyzed using the N-gain score formula, while qualitative data were obtained through interviews, field notes, and documentation. The results showed that the percentage of N-gain score was 71.2% (effective). Interviews revealed that students felt happy and enthusiastic when learning through dance, while teachers considered Edu Dance effective in improving students' understanding of earthquake disaster mitigation. The conclusion of this study is that Edu Dance is proven to increase student preparedness while providing a pleasant learning atmosphere (joyful learning). Edu Dance can be recommended for implementation in disaster-prone schools as an integrative disaster education innovation.
